Lice!!!!
This morning I found lice on Natalie's head. Aaaargh! We have never had lice before, despite Natalie playing all the time with little Papuan kids who most likely have lice. Some friends of ours who were recently interior got lice, and she probably got them from those kids, although when they were playing together, the kids had already been treated for lice and thought they were taken care of. Who knows.
But anyway, today has been a whirlwind of washing bedding, vacuuming and airing out couch cushions, combing through hair, etc. The problem is that you are supposed to wash stuff in hot water, and we don't have hot water hooked up to our washer. And our hot water heaters (we have two - one for the kitchen and one for the bathrooms) are pretty small, so after filling up about 2 big pots' worth and dumping them in the washer, the hot water heater is empty. At least we have a dryer that we've hooked up to use for this special occasion (usually we don't have it hooked up... it's a long story...), and so are trying to dry everything in a HOT dryer for at least 20 minutes. The things that won't fit in the dryer (couch cushions, etc) are outside in the hot sun. At least it is a nice sunny day today!!!
Our friend Jennifer who JUST got back from the States yesterday graciously spent her morning combing through our hair. Thank you, Jennifer!!!! We've figured out that the lice were probably only in Natalie's hair (she only found one tiny one on my head and two in Claire's hair) so if we get all of those out and make sure all the bedding, etc is clean, I hope that we will be fine!
PLEASE pray that these lice will be GONE and not come back!!!

Daily Photos: November 21 - December 1

Saturday - I was getting tired of my earrings getting mixed up all in my drawer, so I decided to make my own jewelry organizer. I had a canvas I bought a year or so ago at one of the stores in Jayapura, so I pounded some nails into it (on the parts where there was wood) and then just punched my earrings through to make holes. I hung it up on our wall and am so happy now to have my jewelry all organized!
Sunday - Today we decided to get off the base and go for a drive (do you see a pattern here? It seems like we end up doing this every few Sundays or so!) Today we went to a place we've been once before (maybe about a year ago?) near the river. We had fun walking around and just getting out of the house!
Monday - Claire was snuggling with Gloria on the couch, pretending to sleep, and then Gloria started tickling her. That's why the picture's blurry - hard to take a clear picture of moving objects!
Tuesday - This little heart hangs by our door. We've had it since we got married. In fact, some friends of my parents gave it to us for our wedding. It's not something I would have picked out for myself, but I love it. It's made of ceramic and has broken once but I fixed it - we can't let it go!
Wednesday - Claire was playing outside, and came in with a flower she'd picked. She ran up to Dan, wanting to be held, and gave him the flower, but then took it back and took a big sniff and said "mmmmm"

Thursday - One of Natalie's friends has a face painting kit so the kids have been painting faces today. Natalie was so excited to be a cute little bunny! We even have bunny ears to complete the look! Oh yes, and it's Thanksgiving today, but seeing as how Dan has to work, we'll do our celebration on Saturday.
Friday - A tasty pecan pie (complete with pecans brought with us from the States!) all ready for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow!
Saturday - A satisfied group after enjoying Thanksgivingd inner. We had the Maxey family (C&MA missionaries here) as well as our friend Katherine (MAF teacher) over to our house. Everyone contributed dishes (I did the turkey! my first time! It was delicious!) and we all enjoyed the meal!
Sunday - It's the weekend after Thanksgiving and time to get out the Christmas decorations! Natalie helped me hang ornaments on our little tree.
Monday - The last day of November and Natalie and I made a count-down tree/chain for Christmas. Every day starting tomorrow, we'll take off one of the links to count down to Christmas Day! (I got the idea for this clever tree from here: http://www.makeandtakes.com/weekend-make-and-takes-advents)
Tuesday - While i was getting dinner ready, Dan and Claire were playing in the playroom. Claire decided she wanted to rest, so she got the pillow and blankets from Natalie's baby doll bed. She was pretty frustrated trying to put the blankets over herself until Dan helped her. Such a cute, snuggly girl! (oh, and the right side of the picture is blurry because somehow the camera lens got fingerprints on it!)

Teeth + Forehead =
That's right. It looks like an animal tried to bite me on the forehead! Claire and I were playing on the bed, and she slipped, and whoops! Teeth right into my face! Hurt like the dickens but poor kid was also hurt so I had to comfort her. Yep, broke the skin and everything - I had two little bleeding cuts for a while there. I am sure I will have a bruise there tomorrow!

Let's make this happen!!!
So, I wrote to the girl over at The Post-it Place who is having the giveaway for the DeWalt drill, and asked her if Dan could enter in the contest himself, or if it was just one entry per household. She said that anyone can enter, whether they have a blog or not, so that gave me an idea.
Would YOU be willing to enter in the drill giveaway for Dan?
All you have to do is go here (the link is this: http://thepost-itplace.com/2009/11/dewalt-giveaway/ ) and make a comment (scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post.) You have to say why you want to win the drill, and also mention another tool that DeWalt makes that you think you might like (so maybe you might want to visit DeWalt first... www.dewalt.com.) You do have to put in your e-mail address so that you can be contacted if you win (for Dan!!!), but don't worry, you won't get any spam messages or anything like that.
You don't even have to have a blog!!!
Let's see how many of my friends can enter, and make this happen for Dan - I really really want him to win this drill!!! (the deadline is December 5th, so be sure to enter before then!)

The story of a drill...
Way back in our Moody days, when we were poor and living in Tennessee, Dan was a brand-new aircraft mechanic student. He needed a cordless drill. Unfortunately, we couldn't afford one. I couldn't figure out how we were going to buy him a drill!
Then, one day, he got a call from one of his classmates. "Look under your truck," he said. So we did. Underneath was a package with a brand-new DeWalt cordless drill and screwdriver! Someone had given Dan a brand-new set of power tools just out of the blue! (Oh, and they gave a set to our friend, too - he didn't know who it was either but was just passing along the message!) We never did find out who it was that gave us such a generous gift, but what an answer to prayer it was!
Dan used his drill and screwdriver almost every day, especially the drill. They came with us to Indonesia, too. Unfortunately a while ago the drill disappeared. Dan looked everywhere for it, and finally had to come to the conclusion that it had been stolen.
So, we need to buy a new one. But man, those things are expensive! And heavy, too! And when we're thinking of all the things we have to buy on furlough (clothes for the girls for 4 years, toys for birthdays and Christmas for 4 years, certain toiletries we can't get here, etc, etc) it's hard to think of giving up some of that precious luggage allowance for a heavy drill! And spending the money for it, too!
Well, today as I was reading some blogs, I saw on one of my friends' blogs that she is giving away...
... you guessed it....
... a DeWalt cordless drill! Now, don't rush over to The Post-it Place and enter to win one for yourself, because I want to win this thing for Dan! (just kidding, feel free to enter
)
And the best thing about it is that these are from a new line of power tools that DeWalt has, called compact lithium ion. Which means that they are lightweight! Wow, what great news for us and our limited luggage allowance!
So, wouldn't that be such an answer to prayer if I could win this drill for my hubby? He sure deserves it!!!
